Award-Winning Email Security Product Enables Enterprises to Guarantee Message Encryption Regardless of Recipients' TechnologyATLANTA, July 7, 2003 - CipherTrust Inc. today announced that IronMail, the industry's first secure e-mail gateway appliance, now offers a system of encryption and policy management tools to protect the contents of incoming and outgoing e-mail traffic in the enterprise. IronMail Secure Delivery allows an organization to maintain extremely high levels of control over content entering and leaving its environment, and ensures that messages sent outside that environment are encrypted.
"Our customers approached us expressing frustration with the industry's available email encryption technologies, so we decided to rise to the occasion just as we did with Web mail and anti-spam," said CipherTrust Chief Technology Officer Dr. Paul Judge. "CipherTrust created IronMail Secure Delivery to support every standards-based approach to secure messaging, thus allowing organizations to maximize the amount of e-mail that is encrypted without creating a nightmare for administrators."
IronMail Secure Delivery incorporates three new encryption technologies in addition to SSL/TLS, including secure Web delivery, and server-side S/MIME and PGP. The introduction of these technologies addresses the limitations associated with traditional encryption solutions, and provides a medium for secure e-mail exchange.
When encrypted through secure Web delivery, the recipient of an e-mail does not see the original message itself in that e-mail. Instead, the e-mail informs the recipient that there is a message waiting for them in a secure, Web-based mailbox, and provides a URL link to retrieve the original message. Likewise protecting the security of e-mail messages, IronMail Secure Delivery support for server-side S/MIME and PGP allows IronMail to interoperate with legacy systems which leverage these technologies.
Maintaining the robust policy enforcement capabilities of CipherTrust's award-winning appliance, IronMail Secure Delivery allows administrators to use IronMail's content filtering and policy manager to make real-time decisions about message encryption. The determination to encrypt can be based simply on keywords such as "confidential" and "legal," as well as header information such as recipient name and domain, sender, and attachment type.
"We needed a solution that not only could deliver and receive encrypted email, but also was easy to deploy and maintain, seamless for end users, and flexible enough to comply with policies such as HIPAA," said Novant Health Information Technology Security Officer Chris Walter. "CipherTrust's IronMail removed the guesswork associated with secure messaging while protecting our email from things like spam, intrusions and other attacks. Among the other products we considered, IronMail was the only solution that could do all these things and do them well."
