VPN-1 Accelerator
Cards
Secure Virtual Network Architecture
The Challenge
Organizations are rapidly
deploying Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to deliver secure connectivity
to remote offices, mobile users, and business partners. However, as
the volume of VPN traffic grows, performance becomes an important
concern. The VPN must secure network communications without slowing
it down. The computationally intensive tasks required for encryption
can exhaust host CPU resources, causing the VPN gateway to become
a performance bottleneck.
The Solution
Check Point meets the
performance challenge with a pair of VPN accelerator cards: the VPN-1
Accelerator Card and the VPN-1 Accelerator Card II. These PCI compatible
cards offload processor intensive cryptographic operations from the
host CPU of a VPN Gateway, to a dedicated processor on the card itself.
Not only do the cards extend the throughput capabilities of VPN-1
gateway solutions, but they also free host CPU resources to concentrate
on other security tasks.
VPN-1 Accelerator Card
[Technical Information]
The VPN-1 Accelerator
Card extends the performance of a single VPN-1 Gateway to up to 45
Mbps. Developed jointly with Chrysalis ITS, the VPN-1 Accelerator
Card is available for Microsoft Windows NT, Sun Solaris, and Nokia
IPSO platforms.

VPN-1 Accelerator Card II
[Technical
Information]
The VPN-1 Accelerator Card II extends the performance of a
single VPN-1 Gateway to up to 100 Mbps. Developed jointly
with Broadcom, the VPN-1 Accelerator Card II is available for
Windows NT, Solaris, and Linux platforms. Support for Nokia
IPSO will be available in the future.

Transparent Configuration and
Management
VPN-1 Accelerator Cards provide
full plug and play support with VPN-1. Software drivers are installed
as part of the VPN-1 installation process, providing seamless integration
with Check Points VPN solution. The cards are administered directly
by the gateway and can be installed on new or existing VPN-1 gateways
with no reconfiguration. In addition, auto-detection of hardware failures
prompts VPN-1 to bypass hardware encryption facilities to utilize
software encryption capabilities of the gateway. This exceptional
level of fault tolerance guarantees VPN up-time.
